چکیده

Several satellite-borne ocean colour Earth observation (EO) sensors are presently collecting data on an operational basis, including the Envisat MERIS sensor. This study aims at detecting differences in ocean colour EO sensor performances for ocean monitoring and in particular the study of algal bloom situations. The motivation for the present study is to explore how data from different sensors can be utilized in one system for HAB detection and monitoring. Ocean products from the MERIS, MODIS/Aqua, and SeaWiFS sensors have been processed and intercompared for data acquired during the development of an early spring algal bloom in 2004 in the North Sea region. The study assesses the comparability of these OC sensors in the cases of bloom and non-bloom situations.

Analysis of red tide in strait of Hormuz in 2008-2009 using ocean satellite data

pollutions. Recently, both Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman are experiencing several types of pollution including oil spills and heavy metal pollutions as well as Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) caused by biological and environmental changes. Theiroccurrence of the red tide or harmful algal bloom during fall and winter 2008-2009 caused numerous unknown factors in the Strait of Hormuz, Persian Gulf and G...

Ocean warming since 1982 has expanded the niche of toxic algal blooms in the North Atlantic and North Pacific oceans.

Global ocean temperatures are rising, yet the impacts of such changes on harmful algal blooms (HABs) are not fully understood. Here we used high-resolution sea-surface temperature records (1982 to 2016) and temperature-dependent growth rates of two algae that produce potent biotoxins, Alexandrium fundyense and Dinophysis acuminata, to evaluate recent changes in these HABs. For both species, pot...

SeaWiFS discrimination of harmful algal bloom evolution

The discrimination of harmful algal blooms (HABs) from space would benefit both the capability of early warning systems and the study of environmental factors affecting the initiation of blooms. Unfortunately, there are no published techniques using global monitoring satellite sensors to distinguish the resulting subtle changes in ocean colour, so in situ sampling is needed to identify the spec...

Monthly variability of chlorophyll and associated physical parameters in the southwest Bay of Bengal water using remote sensing data

In the present paper, we have carried out analysis of surface chlorophyll-a concentration in the seas around India obtained using the Indian Remote Sensing satellite IRS-P4 Ocean Colour Monitor (OCM) data. The focus was given to southwest Bay of Bengal where such studies are scanty. The study portraits the chlorophyll-a pattern during July 1999-June 2000. The monthly sea surface temperature (SS...

Monitoring of ocean surface algal blooms in coastal and oceanic waters around India.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) sensor MODIS-Aqua provides an important tool for reliable observations of the changing ocean surface algal bloom paradigms in coastal and oceanic waters around India. A time series of the MODIS-Aqua-derived OSABI (ocean surface algal bloom index) and its seasonal composite images report new information and comprehensive pictures of thes...
